FIVE BASIC FENG SHUI RULES FOR YOUR HOME

While a Feng Shui home reading is an intensive process involving compass readings, the year your home was built, birth charts for residents in your home, and much more, there are a few basic rules that anyone can apply to any space in order to start having an impact on the Feng Shui of that space.

FENG SHUI RULE #1

-Represent all five elements within every space. In Feng Shui, the five elements we are talking about are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth. You can add these elements to a room through color and shape or by actually bringing the physical element into the space. For example, a weekly bouquet of flowers with regularly changed water can represent the water in your space.

FENG SHUI RULE #2

-All surfaces should be at least 50% clear. This is an important one. Feng Shui is all about balance. We are looking for balance here between stuff, and empty horizontal surfaces. In other words, avoid clutter.

FENG SHUI RULE #3

-Nothing broken and nothing dead in your space. If you need to, have an area in your home, storage, or garage for the items you intend to repair. If, after a year or two, you have not completed the repair, perhaps it’s time to let the thing go. This also means no dried, dead flowers, dead plants, or other life forms that have passed on. There is negative Feng Shui associated with broken items and dead items.

FENG SHUI RULE #4

-All items should bring Joy to those who reside in the space. According to Feng Shui, it is best to set yourself up to have fewer items than to have items around you that you do not like. Wall hangings are a great example of this, many of us have items on our walls that we have had for a long time and have become accustomed to but perhaps have lost interest in.

FENG SHUI RULE #5

-Create a sacred space. It is essential to have an altar in your home to support Feng Shui. This might also be a great space to honor loved ones who have passed, pets you have loved and lost, a plant, a candle, any small items that feel charged with your passed loved ones’ energy, or other totems that mean something to you or otherwise bring you joy. This will support abundance in your life.
