Mindfulness is Healthier than a Workout?

That’s right. I was a bit surprised to learn this too. Also thrilled!! Okay so it’s true, I don’t like exercise unless it’s a hike or other walk with lovely nature scenes to enjoy. I do love meditation and mindfulness however. And it sounds like that is a lucky fact. It was here, on NPR that I first heart of this.

Particularly when it comes to those exercising in order to address high blood pressure, too much is too much and not helpful. This article explains more about exercise but the takeaway is this, vigorus (typical) exercise can be stressful for the body, leading to the exact conditions that we were trying to avoid.

Maybe you are one of those who really enjoys exercise, what then? How can we manage mood without vigor? This recent article from the Guardian has some great insights on how routines and simple actions throughout the day, when accompanied by mindfulness, can be just the ticket.

Tai Chi can also be very helpful for memory, learn more about the specifics here. Additionally, it relaxes the parasympathetic nervous system leading to decreased stress. This is also why it decreases high blood pressure. Lastly, it seems to be more effective than taking a walk for the management of blood sugar.

Not sure where to find Tai Chi or other mindfulness based practices? You would be surprise how many people are offering free sessions on Youtube. You can also try Burnalong, or even CorePower yoga on demand app subscription to find guided meditation, mindfulness, Qi Gong and Tai Chi.

Remember, when it comes to exercise, too much of a good thing is just that, too much.
