When we have an upset digestive system we are told to eat lightly by both western and eastern medicines. This is because digestion takes a lot of work. Giving your body something easy to digest frees up a lot of energy so your body can focus on whatever might be happening such as a cold or other kind of illness.

We know supporting our digestion when we are not feeling helps our body. Why not support our digestion with every meal. This is the gift of herbs. One way to layer herbs into our meal times to help support digestion is drinking a digestif.

Below is a recipe provided by Kami McBride author of The Herbal Kitchen

½ ounce before or after meal

3 Tablespoons of Fennel (supportive for normal digestion. Helps with gas, bloating and digesting fat).

2 Tablespoons of coriander (helps settle your stomach when you have eaten something like beans that have not been cooked well enough).

1 teaspoon celery seed (helps cool down a hot digestion).

1 cup of brandy to infuse to infuse the constituents of the herbs into

Ground in mortar and pestle

Put it all together and strain the seeds out of it.

Add honey to add sweetness (this recipe calls for ½ cup).
