Inspiring Movie Reviews- Mission Joy

Movie watching, a favourite pastime for many of us. Here we summarise and review a few documentaries available currently on Netflix. These are inspiring, focused on health and wellness related topics that are particularly on track with the health and healing that we promote here at Vitalize. If you enjoy the read below, here is a link to the Mission Joy Website.

Mission Joy: a deep conversation between Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama on Joy, Happiness, and how they face life and it’s many adversities..

The following contains direct quotes from Mission Joy, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama.  A summary of our favourite golden nuggets.

“How do we cultivate Joy as a way of being instead of a fleeting state??; we are the source our own joy.  Seeking it becomes elusive when we look outside ourselves.  In fact it comes from inside and not outside.”

“The reframe is fundamental to Buddhist philosophy..“

“Research shows that when you are doing acts of kindness for others it improves your happiness for two to four weeks after, when you are doing acts of joy for yourself, you enjoy them during but it has less of a lasting effect.”

“Blood showed changes in RNA gene expression in the blood associated with better immunity, better immunity when people are also reporting higher levels of happiness.”

“Happier people live longer, have more friends, feels good.  Happiness increases pleasure, people are more productive at work, and physically healthier.”

“Don’t be foolish-selfish, thinking directly of yourself.  To be wise selfish is to help others in order to help ourselves.”

“Open your heart to other people in order to overcome your suffering.  Allow them to help you.”

“Wellbeing is a skill, its a learned skill.  Meditation research shows that when we practice, meditation brings wellbeing through the ability to immediately let pain and suffering, even minor pain ‘go’ and the brain shows that it returns to pre suffering states very quickly.”

“Everyday we are students, everyday we are learning.”

“350mil people in the world suffer from depression.  Compassion for ‘Self’, and meditation are muscles that require exercise daily, like any other.”

“Comfort vs Courage; comfort acknowledges the emotions.  Courage keeps the mind from spending too much time in the emotional state.”

I hope this review is supportive to your human journey.  It is clear from watching two lovely souls as they are, that these are people who are very connected to their inner-child, both of them.  They are happier as that real and embodied person.  I hope you enjoyed this summary.  Enjoy the Joy, oh and check out the movie on Netflix, Mission Joy.
